These extensions on attaching are as good as having natural hair and you can color, straighten, blow dry or curl these extensions just as you do your natural hair.

There are various reasons as to why people go in for hair extensions. Some of the top reasons that people give when they opt for hair extensions are as follows:

- It adds instant length, volume and thickness to the hair. It saves you from the long wait of letting your own natural hair grow out.

- You can get colored or highlighted extensions which would mean that you can get highlights on your hair without having to use chemicals on your natural hair.

- Extensions help you get a totally new look. They are extremely beneficial when you want to look completely different for a special occasion be it a wedding, prom, or any other special event.

- You can experiment with new hair styles with the help of extensions. As mentioned earlier, a new haircut with additional volume and thickness will give you a new look and that is the basic function of hair extensions.

- If you have had a very bad haircut, then you can use extensions to cover it up. It solves your problem and saves you from a lot of embarrassment.

There are different ways of getting hair extensions. Some of the major ways of getting extensions are discussed below.

Bonding: In this process, the extensions are fixed to a latex plug which is then glued to your own hair. This process takes less time as compared to weaving the extensions into your own hair. However, getting bonded extensions out of your hair can be a messy affair because it involves melting the glue using heat and oil.

Weaving: Weaves are tiny sections of your own locks which are braided very close to the scalp. Then human or synthetic locks are sewn in to the braided base. This process is not suitable for thin hair because the weaving attachment will be easily detectable. Extensions that are weaved into your hair need frequent replacing, usually every 3 months.

Fusion: It is considered as the best way to get extensions attached in your hair. Before using this method, it is necessary to wash the hair locks but you shouldn't condition it. With fusion, 25-50 strands of real locks at any given time are glued to your natural locks utilizing a plastic template that protects the scalp. It is a lengthy process but it ends up leaving your hair looking beautiful and different.

Apart from this, there is also the metal tubing method but very few people opt for it. Hair extensions can be very costly especially if you are looking for quality. However, the end result is worth every dime that you spend.
